    That is the purpose of this book. It is my hope that the information I have written will answer many of the questions that you have about purchasing, breeding, husbandry, and diseases of domestic rats. I have tried to anticipate these questions based on inquiries made of me during examinations and on observations I have made about myths and misinformation perpetuated among rat fanciers. Because it is so important to have knowledge of their wild ancestors in order to understand and enjoy our domestic animals, I have included background information about wild rats when ever possible.
