English Grammar Book 2 (P)

English grammar should not be something you dread trying to teach. It is merely what teachers have been doing for years. The terminology is slightly different, but by using familiar and understandable text, it can be comfortable for your students to grasp. English Grammar is about using ‘real text’ to understand and experiment with ‘real language’. Children have an innate sense of interest in stories that portray heroes and villains in stories that personify animals. Myths, legends, fairytales and fables will interest your children and bring them into the natural rhythm, flow, rhyme and picturesque language of the text.

This unit can be supported through the use of several award winning books. It is suggested you give your librarian a list of the following books and let her or him help you in providing these quality models of writing for your students. Fairytales: The Three Little Pigs (different versions); Jack and the beanstalk; The Three Bears; The True Story of the Three Little Pigs; and Red Riding Hood. Legends: King Arthur; The Bat and the Crocodile; Enora and the Black Crane. Fables: The Messy Pelican; The Ducks and the Fox. Myths: Anansi the Spider; Greek Mythology, Zeus.
